Shopping Excursion: Part 2

Some of these you will see again in "after" photos of client's homes!

In case you can't tell, I have such a schizophrenic design aesthetic. Everything I like is a mix of several opposing styles....Coastal Living (i.e. rattan furniture, coral and other natural items, coastal colors, sea inspired artwork), Domino (i.e. kitschy flea market finds and modern accessories) and Southern Accents (i.e. traditional pieces, gold framed art, Oushak rugs). Sometimes it is a stretch to blend them all together (and I am not entirely sure that I always succeed) but luckily, I named my company Eclectic so I can at least pretend, right?

If I Had a Million Dollars...

I would have bought all that I saw on my shopping excursion yesterday! But alas, I do not so I will have to settle for dreaming about these fabulous finds...

I would add some wood in the middle and make the most amazing headboard ever!

Yes, I love old wood boxes.

Cool, fish etching.
Guess I have a thing for fish or maybe it is just fisherman...hmmm.

As mentioned before, I am a sucker for anything zinc or galvanized. Not sure what I would put in all these compartments but I just know that I need this!

OMG how these are going to keep me up at night!
Please can't some distant relative with millions die and leave me a bunch of money so I can buy material things.
(kidding, sort of)

You can't tell but this sucker is HUGE! I would have a round, wood top made and covered in zinc so it would kinda feel like this...

[If only I had Lee's shop to put all my stuff in...one day...one day I say!]

I would lacquer you in something fun like orange or turquoise or French's mustard yellow!

This lamp would be divine in a little girl's room! I would design the whole room around you, you cute little thing.

Ok, so admitably (sometimes) I get distracted while shopping for clients...I collect clutches (mainly vintage) and this one was exquisite. Hard to see all the beading detail but it was so pretty. I could hear it calling me from its tiny booth!

Don't hate me! I didn't kill it. Nor do I remotely support the fur industry but it is already dead and fabricated so can't I wear it to stay warm and stylish?

I did manage to get some things that will be beautiful in client's homes (or mine-let's be honest). I will show you those gems next post!

Have a wonderful weekend!!!

Grasscloth: Will I Ever Tire of You?

So I called my wallpaper installer this morning to schedule a time for him to install grasscloth in the back of a client's built-ins. His response "Again?!?" I guess I use this "designer" trick a lot! (P.S. I am really getting tired of my subs having opinions!) Anyhoo, I thought I would do a post on grasscloth since I clearly love it so and maybe even get inspired to use it in different ways so that I can keep my installer happy.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall (literally)...

I have removed many of the 80's style mirrored walls in client's homes but these images give me something to think about. If you add a little molding, some rosettes, maybe even some age to the mirror itself...they aren't too shabby and not at all like something you would find in Jack Tripper's place! I like the idea of using them as a headboard...it's like a classier version of mirrors on the ceiling.

Time for Dinner!

I have a client that wanted some helping setting her table for her first Thanksgiving dinner. While I was at it, she suggested I go ahead and set the scene for Christmas dinner as well. Here are some pics (sorry the photos are so small!)...

The Flokati Rug

How cozy is a flokati rug this time of year? I was curious how these rugs came to be so I did a little research...

The origin of the modern day Flokati was a serendipitous moment. In the village of Samarina, Greece, villagers raised goats and sheep as their primary source of trade and commodity. They started using the wool as blankets to protect themselves during the harsh winter temperatures. The Samarina shepherds had left one of their woven wool blankets in the waters of the Pindus Mountains, unattended for nearly two days. Once they remembered their wool blanket, the shepherds returned to the stream where they had left their wool blanket and noticed that the backing felted, and most importantly the wool had unraveled and flourished. This was the first, fully flourished Flokati rug. Little did the shepherds know that the wool they relied on to stay warm would become a luxury for millions upon millions of people around the world for centuries to come. As tourism increased and travel became easier in the mid 20th Century, the Flokati burst onto the American scene in the form of the Flokati rug. (Information provided by flokati.com)

They come in different colors also.

Check out this flokati poof!
